Here's my question - I drive 1 3000lb street stock with one little tire rule - 8" rim with a 9" footprint. Thats it, no DOT rule.
Is there any reason I shouldn't use Hoosier's modified tire with the "chain-link" tread as opposed to the Dirt Boss with the DOT numbers? The cost is the same. I have used some "pre-owned" Dirt Bosses for a couple years and have been happy, but I'm looking to buy some new ones and I want to get as much as I can.

One more thing, 2" is as much stagger as I'd want to run, correct?

I ran both tires on a camaro street stock before I got my mod. If given a choice I would buy the dirt boss. I think it has a clear advantage on a wet track and holds its own until the track goes dry slick. From there on I would take a g-60 mc creary. The dirt boss seems to be less flat resistant also. Our mods and hobby's are now required to run an a40 hoosier and this is a good compromise and seems to last forever. Our dirt bosses didn't have DOT stamps though so this might be a different tire. I ran 1/2" stagger on 3/10ths to 3/8ths track and won a lot.

I run the dirt bosses on my mod and the thing I like is that you can get a lot of stagger with them if you need it.
