we went with a gear drive system on our chevy..looking at the front of the motor, that extra hole at the bottom of where the water pump mounts to the block where water flows...should that hole on the pump and the hole on the block be plugged...had a guy/engine builder say that they should be plugged because the number two cylinder runs cold..good, bad or plain stupid? thanx..

I've always blocked off that hole with a small freeze plug(1/8 or 1/4?). Engine builder told me years ago it would reduce engine temp by 30 degrees because that hole shoots water on the #2 cylinder causing steam to build. Don't know the dynamics behind it, but it does work for me!!

Forgot to mention I block off the hole in the pump, not the block.

The aftermarket aluminum waterpump that I run, came from the factory with that hole plugged. So I say, yes that hole can safely be plugged.
