I have had good luck with the Optima's.
(I have 2 of the "red" ones).
One in the car (no alternator),and one powering my winch on the trailer.

Suprisingly, I've run the same Everstart battery for 2 years. It's the 830cca model and would start my 400 street stock engine, even when stalled while engine was hot. The best part is I only paid $35 + tax for it new.

Thanks. We've been having trouble with "normal" batteries. We bought an Optima (red top) but thought I'd double check to see if that was the right one before we installed it.

Any other input is welcome.

I've been running the same duralast for 4 years, its been in street stock car and now in amod with no alt. Its been in several wrecks and never a problem.

Okay, so I sent an e-mail off to Optima to ask them which of their batteries would be best for our application. They recommended the yellow-top variety.

Anyone using the yellow-top? (Of course it's about $50 more than the red top!)

I bought a yellow top when I thought my red top was failing. Turns out the red top was ok (can you believe I had 2 bad starters at the same time?).
Decided to use the yellow top in the trailor for the winch and a DC to AC converter (which has enough poop to run an electric impact, drill, or lots of lighting although my supersawzall overloads it).
The red Top is still going strong . On it's 5th season, still no alt, sometimes we throw a charger on it during the evening (most nights we don't get around to it) can't remember it ever runing out of juice even on nights (3 or 4) when I had to repeatedly start in gear due to hydraulic T.O. bearing failure (this could explain those wiped out starters, you think?).

I know that doesn't quite answer your question about the yellow top, but just wanted to point out that I've never found the red top lacking (also if I'm not mistaken the red is rated slightly higher for cranking amps).

good luck

Well, we had already bought the red top, and since it's cheaper and seems to work for you, I guess we'll keep it. Thanks!
