First year on alky and I bought a carter fuel pump from another Mod driver who runs 2 cars out of their shop and they don't run a return line. -10 from cell to pump then -8 from pump to log. There is no return or regulator. They have been running this way for a few years with no fuel problems. The only thing is when you turn the engine over to check valves, or pump up oil psi it floods the carb. any suggestions.

I have fought this battle for years and have decided that a return line and a good diaphram pressure regulator is the only way to fly.
I have a belt drive pump and was told the same as you that no return line was needed only to have many problems including the exact one you mentioned.
The retrun line is the way to go !

You should run a mechanical bypass with a mechanical pump, the diaphram type bypasses will sometimes have problems keeping up with the pump. Usually the diaphram type are only reccommended with a belt driven pump.
