Just curious about how much everybody's machinist charges. What do they charge for common things like boring, decking, crank grinding, balancing, clean & check, valve jobs, installing bigger valves. I just got my bill today, and my guy seems pretty reasonable, hopefully no one makes any of us too sad!

The machine shop that i use here in OKC is Wise Machine, I think that his prices are reasonable, and I have not had a problem with his work yet. His prices are as follows:Bore and hone $9 a hole($72 for a V-8), Vat the block $20, cam bearings and freeze-plugs $20, remove old pistons from rods and put on new ones $24, Check the crank $10, fully balance $100, Decking the block $60. As I said, he doses good work and I have not had any problems with his work.

The machine shop I use is about the same as dodgeboy and 17j on individual charges. He is also a world record holding drag racer in a street class (Don Bonouhum like bon-o-h-you-m) Nice guy, and he will not compromise on cheap parts. This hurts sometimes when you are on a budget, but in the long run it is better cause the engines are great and they last.

Anybody out there heard of Dave Storlien from Porting Dynamics in Maple Grove MN? I've heard from some people he is a world record snomobile builder. (not snocross, but a sled with a quad four engine that runs a 9 sec. 1/4 mile) I've heard he does the best work especially when it comes to porting. Just wondering if anybody's dealt with him?
