I was recently watching some DIRT modifieds like they race on the east coast on TV, and their fuel cells seemed to be angled in from the back and also from the sides. Does anyone know who makes these fuel cells or where they can be obtained?

Thanks,

Matt

they probably fabricate them themselves...its obviosly for aerodynamic reasons and if you're running a regular IMCA style modified it probably isn't going to help much...but I would get ahold of a National Parts Peddler paper as they are out of New York and have tons of DIRT mod related vendors and ads....maybe pick up a used one

If you have to run a IMCA mod w/ a tail piece, the more arrowdymamic fuel cell will not help you at all. This is because of the extra drag for the tail. If you dont have to run a tail piece then I would recommend a tear drop fuel cell more like what a late model runs. These are supposed to be more arrowdynamic than anything else. I think one reason for the differnt type cell on the DIRT cars is because of driver location not really arrowdynamics. If your interrested still email me back and I'll get you a price for either one. ltr spde aka Dirt Racing Motorsports

Thanks for the input.

I have never seen one of these type cars except in pictures and really could not tell much about the fuel cells. From an aerodynamic standpoint, I can see where a tear drop cell would be the way to go. I thought maybe the odd shape had more to do with static or dynamic weight distribution than with aerodynamics and thought it might be interesting to play around with one in an IMCA type car. Any more thoughts on this?

It's just a standard 22 gallon fuel cell, can and all with an aluminum box around it.
I have seen some that were U-shaped so they can get it a little farther forward and still get the quick change cover off for gear changes.

I run a dirt modified. Our fuel cell have to be in box form. Fuel Safe and ATL makes our cells. std 22 gal. 25"x 17" x 14"
Our fuelcells have to be enclosed by sheet metal on all sides. You may have mistaken our tappered tail for the cell. Sorry.

Thanks for the clarification guys. We are always looking for something new to try on our car. Even if it doesn't help, it sure keeps the competition guessing!

This message board is the best!
