What is the best or preferred way to measure pinion angle on a floater rear-end? I was trying to measure it this weekend and could not decide what the best way to measure it was!

I usually measure on the yolk where the u joint mounts. I find the flatest spot & use a digital angleometer & see what the angle is. This works for me. Make sure the car is on level ground.

454, any surface that is on the same plane as the front of the pumkin yoke will work. You want that angle and the driveshaft angle, the difference is the angle you're looking to check out. If your engine is mounted at, say, 3deg lower in the back, than if it was mounted level; it would cause excessive u-joint wear. A common and safe angle to have is 6deg, start there and adjust as you feel you need to. Its best to have the car at ride height with all running gear attatched so you can move everything through its working motion to check for clearance.

OK guys straighten this out for me. Do you subtract the driveshaft angle from the yoke angle to get your true pinion angle? I thought the pinion angle was just that, the angle of the pinion itself.

Don't subtract.

I have dug in last years discussion about pinion angle and drive shaft angle....I added a post just to bring it to the front page so I didn't need to re-type things.

I went back in the street stock page and pulled up the pinion angle discussion....it's titled FORWARD BITE....there is two pages of repies to that post.......it's now on the front page of the street stock tech........

If you feel there isn't enough information there let us know.......we can discuss this again. Maybe there are sharper people with new ideas on this board....[IMG]http://www.thedirtforum.com/ubb/smilies/cwm5.gif
