Just wondering if an idea i've had has been tried before.The rules we run to state 52% max' left side weight, so i was thinking of running heavier rhs rims (i know this is generally bad news as regards unsprung weight & rotating mass but we've got plenty of power in hand)this would allow me to put more sprung weight into the lhs of the chassis & hopefully give the car a better turn into the corners. Anyone got any other theories on where sprung/unsprung weight is best placed?

I believe this would not be beneficial in the end as you are increasing rotating weight AND unsprung weight. Both of these are EVIL and should be avoided. Their is such thing as too much of a good thing and too much left side weight or rear weight can lead to undesirable handling characteristics.

You wouldn't gain anything anyway. Actually, the ONLY thing that would do is hurt your acceleration and braking from trying to speed up and sloow down those heavy rims. You scale the car with the wheels and tires on it don't you? So what difference if you have lead in the car onin your rims? It's still left side weight.

Yes we weigh the car with wheels & tyres.The idea is that because our car is bellow the minimum weight & we have to add ballast anyway we could make the sprung weight heavier on the lhs (ie. sprung weight 60% lhs & unsprung weight on rhs to bring it back to the max 52% lhs weight rule).This i thought might help handling on turn entry by keeping lhs weight in the car & reducing body roll.Just wondered if it had been tried before & what happened?
