I haven't seen any mods with leaf springs in a while, but when these guys run leafs, do they float the leafs and use a pull bar? Or,do they weld spring perches to the rear end? My much needed information is: How can I float my rear end using leafs! Does anyone sell or offer something to do this?

i waz wondering the same thing a while back...cause the other day in a racing catalog i seen leaf spring floaters...they looked like a clamp on bracket but were floaters instead..that looked like used a bolt and nut deal instead of U-bolts..i waz wondering if they ran a 'lift bar' with leafs?

If you float the leaf you now have a very heavy trailing arm and loose the advantage you were trying to gain. We run multleafs and mono\coil cars with good success. We are now working on half leaf pull bar setup. I have seen these floaters for the leafs and Flexi-flyer used to sell them.

The leaf will still support the weight of the car, but if they are floated they won't wear out as fast because they won't be moving with pinion angle loss/gain.. If I can find these "floaters", I think money can be saved by not replacing leaf springs as regularly as I have to under my current set ups..Forward bite will be controlled with the pullbar. MODRACER, I think I saw the same thing in the Summit catalog.. I think that particular set up if for drag racing, not sure if it would stand the test of circle track racing?

I would highly reccomend giving Buzzard Chassis in Indiana a call. All they run and build are multi or monleaf modifieds.
THey are first class and win a ton of races in the Midwest.
Anytime I have had a question concerning leaf setup or info they have always had the answer.
Most times when it comes to possibility's for leaf set ups they have tried it or are currently doing it.

Hope that helps. I dont even run one of there cars but I have run against them and they are tough.

go to and read their tech pieces about leaf springs. Floated leafs have no place in a dirt car. It might keep the springs from wearing out, but if all you want from your leaf springs is spring rate, you should probably be on coils. Part of the advantage of a leaf is the use of it to control wrap-up. If you want to increase the life and control wrap-up with a torque arm, that is another option. Just don't float the leaves... I've seen too many people do that and wind up in a losing battle.

I agree with greggie. If you float the leaves, you're completely defeating the purpose of having them.

afco and landrum will both say that leafs need to be "put into tension to work properly",by floating them you will eliminate or greatly reduce the tension.
