I have a question about the way 4links are being run now....RR in front LR behind...and this talk about locking the LR. do you lock the LR birdcage on the 4 bar??? on dry or tacky???...and with the 2 links going forward at diff. angels and diff. lengths wouldnt this bind things up if it didnt float??? im just curious about this..i have another question...i have an older car that has had...3link swing arm rear suspension...both springs in front on eliminators..RR in front LR behind...LR in front RR behind...and both on top of rear end..and currently..LR in front on elim. and RR on top. i am seriously considering welding on the 4 link stuff for next year..after getting completely blisterd by 4 bar cars last race out on dry slick....would it be worth the conversion..i cant afford a new chassis..moneys going on a new motor for next year...but im tired of spinning tires on the dryslick when these dudes are pulling wheelies on it!!!!! my car is a DW7..thanks in advance for any input...

belive it or not clamping up the left rear is out dated already. but you dont clamp up the birdcage itself you clamp the shock to the rear end so the birdcage is completely free you are right if you did clamp the birdcage it would bind. when i say it is out dated what the new deal is is to run swing arm right rear 4-bar left rear with shock behind left rear on a 4-bar the birdcage rotates counter clockwise w/ the shock behind it allows the rear end to drive forward but still compressing the spring and driving the left rear in the ground thus giving tons of forward bite on all tracks wet or dry but this is a little tight on wet tracks but **** where are those

do you have to change the top link's length to achive the birdcage rotation? Or do you have to index it forward?

18zero18, How does the spring and shock mount to the LR on a 4 bar LR, swingarm RR set-up? Are they connected to the birdcage or the axle housing? How does the spring add weight to the LR when the birdcage rotates CCW?

if im correct the spring mounts on the rear side with the shock in front side on the LR..mounted on a bracket that floates on the axle housing??? the same bracket that holds the 2 links?? kinda like the one i have now thats welded on but it also has a mount on top for the top link?? why the swingarm (Z-link)RR? more weight on the spring? or is it cause of roll steer?

mod racer is correct the shock is on the front with the the spring in the back both mount to the birdcage. scott, the top bar is longer then the bottom so when you pick up the thottle the chassis lifts when that happens the birdcage is forced ccw. it does not really add weight to the left rear its like this the birdcage rotates ccw if the spring is in front it is being unloaded but if it is behind the axle then it is being compressed thus keeping the left rear driving down. hope this helps
