hey guys just wondering how long a u joint should last. i been wearing em out bout every two weeks. running about 9 degrees of angle in the rear end thanks

I was wearing them out about that fast also, but I think it was from tightening the U-bolts to tight. I started using lock nuts on the U-bolts and just snugging them up instead of torqing them real tight.

We had that problem with some gears and not others, turned out to be some bad pinion yokes, It's worth checking, they do wear and get out of shape in the cup area.

I think you may be running to much angle .. my uncle runs a dw with a 4 link and had the same prob then he reduced the angle and no more probs.. I run leaf springs in my street stock with little angle and have the same u-joint it sence 94 I also agree with rooster that yokes do wear out94....

I have ran the same u-joints for 3 years now. Mostlikely overtorque or to much pinion angle.

If most of the wear is in the part of the u-joint that is bolted to the yolk (as apposed to the part that is in the driveshaft) then tls88mod hit the nail on the head. Premature wear WILL result from over-tighening the u-bolts.

That was a hard lesson learned for us, we went through 4 drive shafts before we found the problem. At first we thought we over tighten the u-bolts, but come to find out it us a sprung pinion yoke.

thanks guys. yes it is only the ends that bolt to the yoke. i ran it two weeks and pulled it out to change gears and it was locked up and the needles where broke on the inside of the two ends that bolt to the yoke. ill try a lock nut and not as tight this weekend
