How much feather do you allow on a tire before you grind it or do something with it?

Zero. I grind my IMCA tires nearly every week anymore. I also flip the RR tire on the rim occasionally to reverse the "bite-edges".

But even this doesn't come anywhere near the bite of a brand-new tire...

I discovered that if you back the car up a hundred yards on an asphalt drive/parking lot; it'll clean 'em right off.

The best we've found is to DA the tires each week with about 30 grit paper. It knocks the glaze off of the tire without removing tread.
