Could anyone explain why pinion angle affects bite? It seems to me that it shouldn't make much difference.

Pinion angle does not effect "bite" at all if none of the chassis mounting points change when the pinion angle is changed. Such as birdcage applications. Slight change may occur on a typical 3-link but for the most part i wouldnt be noticable. The reason for negative pinion angle is to minimize u-joint wear.

Also, depending on the travel of your rear, it will enable you to keep the driveshaft yoke in the tranny. If you were in the opposite position, then you would have a chance to loose it when the pinion wraps.

The u-joint life is critical and will keep some of the direct pressure off of the caps by redirecting the torque within them. Also, I believe this is a little easier on the gears in the car, because they wont slap as hard on the on and off accelerator scenario during a race.

Thanks guys. It seems that as long as the pinion angle does go go past zero, under hard acceleration, that I should be OK?

I guess I'd better learn to type or at least to proofread. I meant to say, "as long as the pinion angle does not go past zero".
