We are fixin to run methanol on a SBC with a
4412. What components will I need to have a complete WORKING fuel delivery system. Fuel pump, regulator, return line, gauge and whatever it takes especially for the engine
to idle w/o loading up????????

To run methanol, you can run a fuel pump, pickup line, return line, a fuel log, and a by-pass. The by-pass will control the loading of the fuel. Your guage can be hooked up onto the fuel log...

THAT ALL DEPENDS ON YOUR MOTOR AND HOW MUCH FUEL IT WILL REQUIRE. I HAVE RAN A 9 PSI MECHANICAL WITH #8 LINE TANK TO CARB AND NO REGULATOR. REASON IS A HOLLEY NEEDLE AND SEAT WILL HOLD UP TO 9 PSI.BE SURE TO RUN A GOOD GAUGE IN THE DASH WITH AN IDIOT LIGHT. I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM ONE.
I NOW RUN THE KSE TANDEM WITH #10 TO PUMP AND #8 TO CARB WITH #8 FOR RETURN. IT IDLES AT ABOUT 3 AND RACES ABOUT 13 PSI.
THE DIFFERENCE IS I CHOSE A TANDEM SO THAT I COULD MAKE IT A LITTLE MORE SIMPLE. (THAT AND MORE MOTOR)
WITH A MECHANICAL DON'T FORGET TO USE THAT LIGHTWEIGHT FUEL PUMP ROD SO YOU DONT HAMMER THAT CAM. TRYING TO REMEMBER JETS I USE TO RUN IN THE 4412 I BELIEVE THEY WERE ABOUT 91'S THE MOTOR HAD BOW TIES, SOLID CAM AND WAS A 355. HOPEFULLY THIS HELPS YOU OUT.

The carburetor is a Bo Laws and Jetted correctly cuz I used it years ago with the same type of engine. The 9 psi mechanical pump is a must. My question is what type of pressure regulator and return line do I need.
Will the mechanical pump overload the needle
and seats at idle or do I need a device to
bypass the fuel at idle. My biggest concern is preventing a meltdown on the big end. When I ran methanol years ago we had no regulator, just straight from the pump to the carburetor with no problems, will this still work?????????????

Thats what I run with a 750 alcohol carb. I know there are better ways but I haven't had any problems at all just running the 9 lb pump without a regulator.

My engine builder doesn't condone the use of methanol as racing fuel due to it's ability to absorb moisture and when it washes by the rings he states that it will rust the internals of your engines. What do yall do to combat this phenomenon from week to week?

AS I STATED BEFORE A HOLLEY NEEDLE AND SEAT WILL HOLD THE 9 PSI THEREFORE YOU DO NOT NEED A BYPASS OR RETURN. THE ONLY REASON YOU WOULD NEED A BYPASS IS IF YOU ARE GOING TO RUN MORE FUEL PRESS. IN THAT CASE BARRY GRANT MAKES A BYPASS SET-UP THAT HOOKS UP TO THE LINKAGE ON THE CARB. ITS MOUNTED ON AN ALUMINUM PLATE THAT BOLTS BENEATH THE CARB. IT ACTS LIKE A VALVE WHEN AT IDLE THE VALVE IS CLOSED AND DELIVERS FUEL BACK TO THE TANK, WHEN OPEN THROTTLE THE VALVES OPENS AND RUNS FUEL TO THE CARB.
