Since the start of the year I have lost 3 drive shafts do to u-joints heating up and melting down! It is happening on the rearend side where the caps bolt to the pinion. Any advice would be helpful.

Too much pinion angle will do it every time.

Too many grunts on the u-bolts dont help either.

If they are getting hot it has to be to much torque on the U-bolts. They don't have to be extremely tight.

Check to make sure your yoke is square where the caps fit. I had the same problem and I replaced the yoke and it fixed it.

Using a typical 1/2" wrench they need to only be good and snug. I've never had them come lose or break. Too tight will deform the caps causing the wear/melting problem. Of course other things may be causing this, so heed all the suggestions you've been givin.
