I was wondering if someone could give me some advice. I am starting to run short on funds and I wanted to know how important Balancing the engine is. I am planning on running the engine around 6,200-6,500 rpm.
I know it is important but could i possibly go without it. It is a 355.
thanks

It has been my experience when you run over 6500 on a regular basis, if it's not balanced it will fly apart. The only motor I have ever used that did not was a 68-69 327.

i've always been of the opinion that balancing is worth the added expence. Reliability and longevity are greatly increased.

I have only been able to get about two seasons out of an unbalanced motor before it would break the crank shaft.(had nothing to do with the balance.)Keep it under 7000 and get the oil clearance right and you may wear out the stock rods before it comes apart.
