has anyone had any luck taking a z link swing arm car(jet or rayburn) and making it a 2 link swing arm car? i mean by locking the bird cages and taking off the rear trailing arm. what will it help or hurt?

If you lock the birdcages and take the upper links off it is no longer a swing arm, it becomes a 3 link. I tried this for one night at the end of last season and seemed to work ok. I would have run it more to really have a better idea of it. We tried it just to see how felt compared to the swing arm.

If the springs attach to the arm it is a swing arm , if they attach to the rear end it is a 2 or 3 link. Lots of cars are built as regular swing arm cars and they are fast.

Well as luck would have it I have both a Jet with z-link and a dirtworks with rayburn style swingarm. It has been my experience that the z-link setup works best on dryslick tracks or rough tracks. The 2-link swing arm works best when track is tacky.All it takes on my cars is to change bird cages and springs. The 2-link setup uses softer springs on all 4-corners. Also With the z-link I like the rear mount panhard bar but on the 2-link the rubber mount j bar feels the best. If I had to do it again I'd try an eagle chassis where everything has on bolt on mounts that would allow me to run any rear setup.
During speedweeks At Volusia in feb there were a few 4-bar and z-link cars that ran good but the most consistant and in my mind the fastest cars were the dirtworks that ran a 2-link swingarm,rubber bushed pull bar and rubber mounted j bar. Just my 2cents.
