What is the most you have gotten out of a set? How can we increase or decrease it?

Tire stretching work?

Any ideas?

I generally can get inch and a half to two inchs fairly easy. I have stretched tires by airing them to 50 psi and leaving them out in the sun for a couple of days. The amount you can gain doing this varies. I know one guy that says he gets four inchs this way, but I personally never have.
Marsh Racing Tires used to sell tires that they claimed were undersized, but I don't know if they still do. You had to buy the tire already mounted on a wheel if I remember correctly.

A few years ago WISSOTA went with the spec wheel........well I didn't want to throw my old wheels in the trash. I took a wheel that we bent and cut the center out along with the back half still attached, then I welded on a out half from a wheel that wasn't a spec wheel........the stamp and sticker where on the center of the wheel......I made myself a 9 1/2" wide wheel this way.........our tire are sized that we either have 1 inch or 5 inchs.....NOTHING in between.......well with the wider wheel we had what we needed......
was it cheating????/ YES I SUPPOSE SO, BUT I DID THIS ONLY TO SAVE MONEY BY NOT THROWING OUT GOOD WHEELS.........I used every one I had over the next two years.
now we are back to 1 or 5 stagger.

This welded wheel was safer than setting a tire out in the sun with 50-100 psi.......

I've never had any trouble finding tires to run 3 to 3 1/2 " of stagger in 4 seasons in the Wissota mods. You just have to dig through the tire pile to find the tires that are marked at the right measurements. 27.5s come from 89" to 91", and 26.5s come from about 86 1/2" to 88". The tires will blow up consistently to almost exactly 3" less than what they're marked at and they'll stay that way. Also, they'll blow up 3/4" to 1" smaller if you run a tube in them. On top of that, if you know where to look (Hoosier Tire North is 1/2 hr from my house) you can get into a 25.5, but only in the super and dirt bozz. You can get 3" stagger in the 25.5 and the 26.5 that way and also make a real easy final drive ratio change with them.
If I were you, I'd look into where you're getting your tires from, and possibly who's digging through the pile before you get to it. Maybe your vendor's got a favorite or two that he's giving first dibs.. it's not unheard of.
The only time I ever had trouble finding the tires I needed was at the Wissota 100 when everyone wants new tires and everyone wants the same size, but I learned my lesson after the first time and bought my tires before I got there for the last 3 yrs.

Hope it helps,
