Im not too familiar with the 601 head. However I have ran the 58cc double hump heads, with 1.94 1.50 ss valves. Then used 1.250 diameter high lift springs. I had them angle milled to 52cc. I used 2 valve relief flat top pistons. It is a good budjet combo with the right cam. Works good in my stock and mod. I turn it above 7500 rpm. What with the open rules regarding heads in the mod class, I wouldn't spend alot of money on stock type heads.....This is just a strong engine that I had, so I used it. My next one is going to have at least 13.0 to 1 compression. Big valves, runners, springs...etc.....

I used these heads on a street stock (3200lb) car for years.also ran on mod for one season because I had them.Turned around 6500 to 6800.It made good torque. You must use a thick head gasket not metal. The late model 350 gaskets from chevy work well and are only .026 thick.use them if you got em.
