The s-10 PS box is the same box found on the small metric cars. Junkyard lists application on the computer as being the same, and put them next to each other and they're the same. There are lighter boxes out there, the ones with the round caps on the top, but I don't know what they're off of.

THE LIGHTEST GM STEERINNG BOX IS THE 605 BOX. LOOK FOR 605 CAST INTO THE CASE.. HAS ROUND PLUG ON END AND TOP. MAINLY FOUND ON 81 UP MONTE CARLOS AND REGALS, AND SOME MALIBUS. ALSO SOME 83 UP CAMAROS AND FIREBIRDS.

That is easy, all you have to do is fill the box with fluid, and then make a loop connecting the two fittings on the box, there is no pressure so you can use fuel line and hose clamps. You must be a big bruiser or you are not running a steering quickener. What do you have against power steering?

Like somebody else said,605 box is lightest. There is no advantage to s-10 box when it is so easy to make any box work like I described above.Go with any standard Chevy box or go with the 605 box for light weight. The s-10 box is not any lighter than any other Chevy box, don't make it any more difficult than it needs to be,many people get into trouble when they try to outthink themselves,go with what works.good luck.

I wouldn't run without power steering. Cheap stock power steering box and 2 to 1 quickener. Not lighter weight but a whole lot cheaper is to run a stock gm power steering pump. I know all the books say they won't work, won't hold up, will run too hot. BUT!!!, I have run one on my dirt modified for 5 years now. Paid $25 for it and has never let me down. Run engine to 7000 rpm and have run long feature races with it. Won lots of races. Never a problem. Don't have to spend hundreds on the pumps and plumbing for the race stuff. Is heavier, but cheap.

Try the pump off a geo. It's the same as the racing pumps.Order bracket and pulley from day.The fittings for the pump and sector come from afco.Used the resevior from a toyota.

If you are worried about heat, Some of the big Fords from the mid 70,s thru the 80,s use a small double loop cooler on the p/s. Works fine on chev,s.
