mark one and count all the teeth on the ring gear, and pinion gear, then divide the pinion by the ring....

ring is big round one.

66jj, don't you devide the ring by the pinion?

racerdave99, some gear sets have the tooth counts stamped on the ring gear.

Mark - and count the ring gear teeth......then mark - and count the pinion gear teeth.

Divide the ring number by the pinion number.

For instance:

39 teeth - ring. 10 teeth - pinion

Therefore 39/10 = 3.90 (390 gears)

My only experience is with GM 7.5 rearends. Just clean the ring gear up and rotate until you see the factory markings. They will tell you the ratio.
