It isn't cheating until you or they get caught, what it boils down to is how you and they interpret the rules.
It is a shame that tracks do not enforce the rules for everyone, and if rules are broken, the consequences for those who brake the rules should be fully under stood. You state that you have alot of cam in your motor.Could this a deal where too much cam is beating you than the other cars? I have seen guys killer motors, that make the earth move, but fall flat on their face on the track.

When I first got into racing I was told by an old (seasoned?) driver that "If you ain't cheatin', you ain't winnin'." I know that may draw some fire from some out there who stay completely within the rules, but from what I've learned in the years since there is a lot of truth in that comment. From Saturday night dirt tracks to NASCAR's top division, (Jeff Green's illegal springs a few weeks ago, Rusty's illegal spoiler at Talladega, etc. etc.) it's something that happens every week at every track, and you can't stop it. To do that, you'd have to tear into every car with a microscope and at feature time you'd see starting fields of 2 or 3 cars. Those who can run completely within the rules and do well should be given a well-deserved pat on the back. But as I'm sure most won't admit if and/or how they are cheating, I just assume everyone is cheating, somewhere, sometime, somehow. Whether or not YOU cheat is up to you and your conscience. So what to do??? Get in your car, put on your helmet and race your race car. Cheat if you want, some day you probably will get caught by some eagle-eyed tech, and as the other old saying goes...don't do the crime if you can't do the time. In other words, don't cry when you get DQ'ed and fined or worse, lose points or purse.

I read a article by Smokey once that said.He dint really like cheating but if the top dogs done it and nobody did anything it was "defensive cheating"I kinda like that thought.I mean how else you gonna keep up huh?

Lets see,

ive owned my local tracks track record and have set a lower one every year since 1998.

And yes Ive cheated. I tried a 3 disc clutch And went the slowest I went for the year...1999

Ive ran a internally balanced 383 and gone slower than any previous week.2000

Oh I soaked the heck out of some tires and was again the worst for year in qualifying,2001..

And believe it or not my pit guy put my clutch disc in backwards for the last race in 2001, so the springs hit the flywheel, and it slipped, that day I set the new 2001 record which still stands, by keeping it wide open all the way around in the high groove....we of course turned it around after qualifying!!!!!!!!!!! BUT THAT MIGHT BE A TRICK HUH EVERYONE SURE THOUGHT SO.

IN MY OPINION CHEATERS NEVER EVER REALLY WIN, I HAVE RACED GUYS CHEATING WAY WAY BAD, LIKE NEW TIRES AND WE RUN USED TAKE OFFS, OR EVEN ROLLER CAMS 1000.00 CARBS ETC, BUT YOU KNOW WHAT NOT ONE OF THEM HAS BEAT MY TRACK RECORD EVER, NOT TOP MENTION I JUST SOLD MY CAR RACE READY OF THE TRACK FOR 6500.00 SEVERAL I RACE AGAINST HAVE BEEN SOLD FOR 9500.-14,000. NOW THATS FUNNY.

Nothing in this world is worth a darn unless you've earned it, I've races for years now without cheating with lots of success and it gives me greater pleasure knowing i'm beatin up on some cheatin racers.
How do you like me now boys!

Like a lot of guys out there I dont like flat out cheating. However there are gray areas in EVERY rule book. If your not looking into the gray areas, chances are that the guy that just passed you is.

I think that every track has their favorites, just wished that it was us LOL. I think that it is sad that people feel the need to cheat but what is even more sad is that, if they are not inforced, why even have rules?
About having the money to put high dollar stuff in the car, I understand that all to well. That just doesn't seem fair either bc yeah if you got the money you can make anything run like a scalded dawg, but if you ain't got the funds, you do the best with what you have and sometimes that just isnt' enough.

I was going through some archives since I am so busy at work today(not!), and thought this subject deserved something Richard Petty told my dad one time on that topic and I think he said it again later in an interview. "if you cheat 100 times and get caught 50, then you are still 50 ahead" In a nutshell, stop whining, go to your R& D and get better or take up fishing. If this was easy they would call it dragracing. Big Bird didn't mention how they were cheating.
He mentioned a $800 buy out, from every thing I've seen most people spend 3 to 4 times the buy out price.
I'm finishing my Dirt street stock, we have no buy out rule, and I'm spending a little over $5,000 on a motor, and going to be racing against guys with $1,800 along just in the heads.
Spending more money isn't cheating, 8" tires can only take so much power. Build motor the tire limit, and have fun...

Never been one for cheating. If there's a claim rule - use it! Chances are no one has, and that's why everyone is putting so much into their motors. At my home track, they took out the claim rule because no one used it. The driver that won the championship had out spent everyone else by about a 3 to 1 margin - and bragged about it. As for your car, if you can run with the leaders for 2 laps, you should be able to run with them all night (hp wise). Watch some video of your races to see if your really hanging with them, or if it's just taking them that long to clear you and other traffic.
As for tracks playing favorites, there are ways to deal with that - but you have to do it anonymously.

It doesn't matter how much $$$$ you spend on a motor, if you can't put the power to the ground then you ain't gonna keep up. They guy who gets thru the corners the fastest is the guy who is gonna have the fastest lap times, not the guy who gets down the straights the fastest. Just my .02.

the problem with a claim rule is it usually says the top five or so are the only ones that can protesr and they all know what they got so no one protestor when they do get protested because some one got the chance they refuse and are back next week to carry on

Justin I agree with you 110%. Most can't get through the corners well at all and try and make up for it by cheating on the motor.

well, ill throw my .02 cents in,heh, there is always cheating,in the grey spots in rule books usually winds up being cheating,or around were im at it does, many times when a rule isnt clear and a driver sais,#5 aint legal,he is doing this or that, then usaully #5 gets dq,track has a new rule starting now,and #5 got the first notice on it!! lol,and spending lots of money isnt cheating,it ***** when ya aint got a phat pocket buck, buti pass plenty of $1,000 carbs, and $3500-4500 motors with 1 have a little more than $2300 in,and thats after having to competely rebuild my heads
