Possibly the pressure line or the pump itself. Eddie

I had same thing last year but was also losing fluid out the top of pump res. Put on a bigger psp pulley and no more problem hope this helps.

THIS A COMMON PROBLEM THE PUMP IS PICKING UP AIR AND FOAMING THE FLUID I USE A PUMP WITH THE ROUND TOP AND CUT THE TOP OUT WHERE YOU ***** ON THE CAP THEN BUY SOME FUEL FILL HOSE ABOUT 8 INCHES LONG THE SAME SIZE AND PUT THAT IN BETWEEN THIS WILL RAISE YOU'RE CAP,LET YOU PUT MORE FLUID IN AND KEEP THE PUMP FROM PICKING UP AIR TRY IT IT WORKS!

Could your suction line be kinked or collapsing internally?
Is the pump mounted at three points to keep from flexing and causing belt slip?

If your rules allow it, try running a power steering pump off of any chevy 4 cylinder car. They are designed to run up to 8000 RPM's. I've used the same one off a chevy citation for 5 years now after burning up several v-8 pumps.

yes the citation style pump is what most mod's and others use,the aftermarket just taps the housings for AN type fittings and they add an external reservoir

We had a simular problem one year.
The return line was so old it had swelled internally, and the hose wasnt geting enough fluid through it. Its often overlooked because its only a return hose. We had just grabbed one from a car in the junk yard and through it on. It worked for a couple of years than the steering got worse and worse every week, we inspected everything else first than after pulling our hair out we checked the only thing that hadnt been checked. JUST A THOUGHT!!!

One question on the 4cyl P/S pumps, what type of mounting does it have?? or is it a standard pump, just higher RPM..

Thanks; wide

thanks guys.i think it was in fact aerating the fluid.gonna try that trick with extendeding the filler neck.if it mounts up pretty easy i might put on a 4cyl. pump

If your steering box leaks, it's leaking pressure, too...that'll make it steer hard. Check that for leaks and replace if necessary..
