Ok, went junk yard hunting yesterday, and here is what I found. I found a 605 power steering box. I was told that this is the best one to use. Is this so? The car is an 85 Buick Grand National (metric). I also came across a manual box out of a 64 Malibu. Does anyone run manual steering, and if so, does it work ok? We run on a large and fast half mile track. Fairly big turns. Also, we can't run any quick steer. I have owned cars with manual steering before, and it wasn't a problem, but never dealt with them in a racing application before. What's everyone's opinion?

The 605 is light weight, but the ratios are terrible. If you can't run a quickner, I'd be looking for a fast ratio box out of a Z.

See the post below about Nova power steering. Seems as tho he's got good info regarding.

Myself, I run a 605 with a 2:1 quickener, so I've never had to dig into the Z box info.

i've always just run the stock metric box not a problem but if you want to get a quicker one the iroc z box is the way to go. as for manual box they invented power steering for a reason my buddy has manual steering on his car just runs a line to conect the fittings he has won 3 in a row but thats just because we line up by point average lowest first and his is so low from crashing every week becuase he can't go thru traffic that he had been on the front row the last 3 weeks.
