Has anyone tried a bead lock kit? are they worth the trouble, or is it better to just buy a bead lock wheel? Are they hard to install correctly? Any opinions? Thanks!

Ok guys, I bought one of the bead lock kits from speedway and am not sure how to install it. I have never actually looked at a beadlock rim so I am not sure on the exact opperation. Can someone tell me how to install the thing and how exactly it works?

I don't mean to sound rude or anything, but didn't it come with instructions? That was the reason for the post. I have a real limited budget don't want to waste money on something that won't work. I've been looking at a MRT econolock at www.mrt-wheels.com, the site has some very useful info. I e-mailed about cost, local dealer etc. haven't heard back yet. They have installation instuctions for their kits, give them a look-might help.

The kit I got from speedway has no instructions it was just two rings and a lot of bolts. Like I said, I don't see how it's suppose to work or how to install it?

Here's how I always installed them: Take the tire off the wheel(if it's not already done), clean/prep the face of the wheel for welding, center the beadlock ring(the part with the nuts attached to it) to the wheel, tack it on 4 sides, check for centering again, then weld it up. Try to skip weld, don't weld in one continous line(that could cause warpage). Then grind the welds flat and smooth. You may have to touch-up weld for spots that don't penetrate well or spots that you grind too deep(believe me, easy to do). Add paint, tire and outer beadlock ring and your ready to go. Sometimes I use silicone to seal the whole deal.

Ok, so here is another stupid question. Does the original beed come off or do I just sit the new beadlock ring on top of it and weld.
Sorry for my ingnorance I am trying to figure this thing out.

I've always fit the kit inside the original bead, no cutting.

Sounds simple enough, guess I will go ahead and give it a try. Thank's for the response.

I got an e-mail from them (MRT) yesterday, said Econo locks for steel wheels still available. Going to give them a call.

Just got off the phone with Brant Chenoweth at MRT, He assures me that MRT is not out of business. Lyle Marsh the founder has, bought back the company. Anyway I ordered one of their Econo beadlock kits. Check them out at www.mrt-wheels.com.
