I have a 1983 Monte Carlo with a 350 chevy. I am having problems with the engine getting hot. I run the timing at 32 degrees. I have an Afco aluminum radiator but I am consistently running 220-250.

Jim i take it you are running water, try putting in some NOS cooling additive or some HYPER-LUBE cooling additive that should bring the temp down, are you running headers or stock exhaust manifolds? Eddie

After reading your post that say's you can only turn 4,500 rpm with a 6.56 gear , plus this one where you are running hot , I'd look toward your fuel system and see if you have a fuel supply problem . Also make sure your timing mark on your balancer is correct . An engine that has too much , or too little timing will run hot .

Thanks for your replies. I am running stock exhaust manifolds. I think the passenger side is off of a truck. I also noticed that the car was backfiring a lot going into the corner. I am also melting my right side bushing on the upper A, and some spark plug wires.

i agree with 29 after reading bolth your post tonite i woulsd put some different jets ands double check you timing and timeing chain to make sure everything is lined up ok. as for your rpm's we had the same problem in our old cruiser just had a stock 2 core rad and it seemed to lose power twards the end of the feature then one nite we hit something andf put a hole in it then a guy let us use his spare 4 core and it never faded again

It sounds like you might be retarded. Your ignition timing that is. I bet if you were running headers, they would glow cherry red.
