If you are running a TH 350 for a tranny your 2.73 will work if you run it in L1. I don't personally like the idea due to to the parasitic powerloss and the strain on the tranny but it does work and on a 3/10 track I beleive they are running about 5500 rpm pulling the straights. I think they also have to block the modulator on older trannies to keep it from shifting into L2 when it builds pressure. Not quite sure but I know alot of guys here do it and somebody on here should know all the ins and outs on how it works. Hope that helps.

It depends on what size track I run a 273 rear end gear in mine it ends up being around 670 680 to the ground I cant remember exactly and it usually turns around 6200 on a quarter mile track. As far as it being power loss to run it in low gear thats not showed me much our Pure stock team has won 4 championships in 6 years and have never ran in any gear but 1st

Your rear end gear means nothing without your tranny gear figured in too. You can run just the same final drive as someone with a 600 rear end as long as you have the right tranny gear to go with it. I have a 273 with a saginaw 4 speed and in 2nd @ 1.54 I get a final drive of 6.01 which works good for me, but I race a longer track than you and probably a lot less rpm's due to our rules up here. I have the 041 heads, sounds like the same ones you have. I run a comp cam and get lots of ponies. As for you dirtracers, you should move up a class and stop picking on the new guys. Purestock is for beginners!
