I AM LOOKING AT A 78 MONTECARLO FOR A STREETSTOCK. I HAVE BEEN TOLD NOT TO USE
IT BECAUSE 82 AND NEWER ARE INTERCHANGABLE
BUT OLDER ARE NOT. IS THIS TRUE? AND IS THERE ANY OTHER DRAW BACKS.

frame wise a metric is a mertic there are a couple differences but thats not the year more to the model the only difference is the body presonally i don't like the shape of the older ones and don't like the angle of the deck lid seen a few of the older ones get road up do to the angle

the only thing that will not interchange is the spindles and rotors the bearing size is different but you can put the a-arms ,spindles, and rotors on from a 1982 and you will be all set

One other difference I can think of is the rear pinion bearing on the 78 is smaller than 79 and up rears. The gears are the same.
