I just purchased an 80's monte carlo, metric chassis, with a stock mount rear end assy. I just dropped some cash on a ford 9" grand national floater assy. and now I need to mount it in the car. I would like to use a 3 link system with a panhard bar but our rules state "no heim joints"

Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be used in place of the heim joints on the panhard bar?

Am I the only one who thinks that being allowed to have a panard bar and floater, but no heim joints in a Street Stock is just a little strange?

It's possible that the heim joint rule is designed to prevent what you're trying to do.

Our rules are definately a bit screwy. It probably is designed to keep people from getting exotic and expensive rear suspension setups. However, Last year the front runners were all running a 3 link setup. I know a few people that creatively hide their heim joints.

Here is the entire section of the rules that governs suspension...

F: Suspension
1. Stock front clip. Stock upper and lower A-frames. Stock steering box control arms. One shock mounted in stock position. NO late model or racing chassis. NO rack and pinion. NO coil overs. Min. 5" diameter springs. Main frame rails are to be made of 2 x 3 O.D. min. steel tubing.

2. Stock type rear-ends only!!! NO FIFTH COIL OR COIL COVERS No heim joints, TRUCK READEND AND FLOATERS PERMITTED.

3. No spring shocks or cushions can be added to linkage. NO BIRDCAGES!

4. No weight jacks

Howe racing company makes rubber bushing ends that ***** in to the 3/4 strut tubes and also sell 3 link brackets that fit the ends. This way you can have the 3 link but no heims.

Why not use tie rod ends? Brackets with shock eye sockets welded on them would be plenty strong.
