We are allowed to run pipe bumpers in our class and I was wondering what is the best method to mount the bumper to the car.

Should the pipe bumper be mounted directly to the body where the stock bumper was placed or would it be better to mount it to the cage built within the trunk area? I think the best method is to mount it to the cage in the trunk, which is all tied into square tubing running the width of the rear end, so the most likely damage will occur in that area instead of the actual sub-frame area that are on most Camaros and Novas.

Mount it like you said, my bumper is off a camaro and i put it on my 73 nova. I have a pipe that runs around the rear of the car which is connected to my rear down bars i caome off the rear piece with round tubing and a bracket to bolt the bumper to i also put a good sized gusset in each bar for added support.
