I was wondering what people do about replacing the factory steering columns. I have a 74 Camaro that has a tilt steering wheel in it, and I'm afraid that it might break during a race. I was just wondering what the best (cheapest) setup or modifications would be?

Day Motor sports i believe sells a kit that comes with shaft, steering wheel, heim joint,column bracket to get you started. All i did was cut the bottom section of the steering colum above the colapsable portion and weld the pipe to it etc remember you need the colapsable portion so that if you are in a head on the steering shaft will have the give in it.

posted March 11, 2002 01:55 AM i have to run a stock colum have never had one break on me only problem i had was i got it to hot one time when i was putting the quick relies hub on and it metled the bushings so the wheel flopped around so i had to relpace it if you want to put in one do it just like redneck said we do that in our hobby cars but my bomber the make us run stock so we can't move the pedals and cage back
