Heres a question I was just curious if anyone out there lets their car owner, crew or other people drive their cars?

Obviously not during the season points chase.
But at other tracks or post season races and such. I had a few sponsors express interest in driving.

When I wrenched for my buddy I would occasionally drive the car for hot laps. But usually when the car was close and I felt he was forcing the car and not driving the car. It was helpful and a nice perk!

Just curious??

my buddy used to let me hot lap his car and let me run it for a special at another track then a couple years later i was broke and his car was too so i let him run mine and he brought it back with a bent stub needless to say nobody will ever drive my car again unless it's my uncle or car builder to check if something is not right in it. we used to have crew and sponsor races once a year but they have gotten away from that now i don't even think they run the powder puff races around here any more

I've offered to let friends mud-pack and racers I trust hot-lap, but running my car in a race would be asking alot. My Crewchief was making noises like he might like to take my car out in the mechanics race at the end of this (just finished) season, but the thought of all those unseasoned drivers (including my crewchief) out their on the track with my car was a bit too scary.
I told my Crewchief we would put together another car (out of spare parts and a chassis I raced a couple of years ago) so he could run a few regular races in 2002 and he seems pretty excited about that.

Do I let anyone drive MY car??????/
Well, nobody has ever driven my race car.... But not because of me stopping them.....contrare......every time someone (father) tell me I drove like a little old lady or worse I toss my helmet their way and tell him to strap it on and wear it proud.

This is the biggest reason for me keeping two cars........if he want to tell me how to drive he can just hop in either car and I'll follow him around the track until I get tired of it then I will drive by.....LOL
After 2 years of having two comlete race ready cars I have never heard a word about driving or set-up........now things are done to my satisfaction...........

I know people that have let others dive their cars.......it's a great way to keep a sponsor involved in your program, bring them to the track and strapping it on......this beats the heck out of the sponsor sitting in the stands and listening to some jar-head sreaming BANG HIM in the sponsors ear.............
I have also fixed a few cars that were wrecked in a mechanics race......a safety crew race........but that's racing......

If you are looking at a sponsor, this is another thing YOU can offer him.......last race of the weekend at some track you don't run for points.......then if there is a problem you got a week to repair any damage.
And if the sponsor damages the car is has money invested too, and would be MORE willing to help buy what ever parts need replacing.

I would always let my brother or dad or whoever happened to be helping me in the pits pack the track if they wanted to. If it was late in the season I would probably let him hot lap it a time or too also. As far as racing in a regular race....I dont know. I have raced 2 years now and had a partner both years. We switched drivers every week. It gets old fixing others mistakes fast. THEY get tired of fixing mine too! The last race of this year I offered my car to my brother. It didbt matter what he did to it becuase it was soon to be a couple of yugos(scrapyard). Believe it or he turned it down. I told him he could total it and it didn't matter. He still didn't wanna drive it, he said maybe next year. Heres my problem-I dont think i wanna let anybody race my NEW car. I would have to tear him a new rectum if he hurt my baby.

i have a passenger seat in my car. at intermissions i ride a passenger who wins te ride for 5 full speed laps. one of the riders was the track owners nieces who was 16 after i gave her the ride i let her take it out there. she wouldnt unless i rode shotgun. that was a scary ride and the track owner knew it cause he commented on how i was hanging on to the bars real tight. i ran a few friends cars after the races a couple times before i got my car. my wife also has ran it. bad idea. the next year i had to make her a car. my sponsors wont get in the car. i cant figure out why. he he my view a new driver out on the track by themselves usually wont go 50% full speed so theres usually no chance of hurting the car. if they do, o well. they couldnt hurt any worse than i hav at one time or another.

I have let several wheel pack in it. I have let the guy who built it shake it down(He breaks it, he can fix it). And at the end of the season I let a friend race it a couple of times. He takes good care of it and has more experience driving also. IF I HAD A SPONSOR, FOR THE RIGHT $$$ HE COULD!

Thats how I got started in circle track racing. I had a 68 Nova I was drag racing in high school and had built some fast motors for some buddies. A guy from another school asked if I would help work on his Enduro motor to help pull a few more ponies our of it. Always liking a challenge. I stopped by his shop (Big oak tree behind the house)and see what I could do. Made some suggestions and did some tuning work. He asked if I would go with him to the track the next race. I said sure since drag races were on Sunday afternoon and circle track was on Sat night. Anyway I got the feel of what the motor needed as I watched the racing action. Got hooked on it from the start. Well about half way through the season the car was having a problem breaking up in the corner and my buddy asked me to take it out for the hot laps to see if it was him doing something or the car. That was the best 10 laps of my life!!!! Went out the next day to start looking for a car to build. My Junior and Senior year I would race Sat night on dirt and Drag on Sunday. My mom was not to happy about the money I was putting into cars but dad said better to have him on the race trak running instead of the streets and no money to spend on dope and ****.

At our track we have a run what you brung night at the end of the season and on this night we usually let all the crew tack the cars out to race because if it does get hurt you have all winter to fix it and also if they work all year on the car they deserve to take it for a spin and have some fun too.

hey racer17j, the ride along i do is about the funnest part of my evening. yes, i have fun racing but when i unstrap a 8-12 year old kid and see the grin on their face after 5 full speed laps that just make the whole nite. no matter whats happened up to that point it all faids away. i sometimes wonder how the helmet keeps from cracking with those ear to ear smiles. future racers maybe, future fans definitly. thats what we're all out there for. later scott

I let my sponcer drive mine during a practice session. He had a Street Stock big Monte Carlo 74 there he was driving. And mine is the I-Stock car. he made it into turn three and backed it into the wall flat out in turn four. So NOW i will let no one drive my car until the end of the season. I let my sister drive the powder puff races at the end of the season where I will have plenty of time to fix it. But so far she has not put a scratch on it. Don't hurt having a girl that will put it up front and stay there. Hot lapping is where I mess up lol. so try not to hot lap to much can't not race if someone is on the track at the same time.

You guys are really brave. I wait until the season is over, then rent the track for a day
and I let them take turns driving it around the track all day. They are the only ones on the track.

I've driven my Buddy's sprint-car twice on practice night, and mudpacked a couple of factory-stock's which lead to me building my own factory-stock and racing.

yes i let my crew drive my car. they help me fix my car anytime. if i count their time at 1 dollar an hour they could have bought my car. there is nothing they can do to it that together we can't fix. p.s. they have never even scratched it.

How much the sponsor or helper gives is in direct proportion as to how much they drive my cars
