I race at a 1/4 mile asphalt track and im using a 70's camaro with an open differential. Is there an advantage to using a mini spool, what setup changes should I make if I install the mini spool.

It's hard to reply to a question that doesn't give us the needed information.

You stated a 70's Caramro, do you run a stock chevy 12 bolt? a Ford 9 inch? and if you run a chevy rear do your rules allow you to put in a Ford 9 inch?

After we have the need information we can give you good sound advice. Along with the correct way to change over if that's what you feel you need.

I feel the open rear is a better deal for your racing than a locked rear......if the open rear end is working properly. The changes you would need to make would include adding stagger to help the car turn, and maybe a little softer spring package.....the biggest thing to change is the driving style.

I know guys that have tried open rears and loved them and went much faster......I know other people that tried them and hated them and ran much slower........they drive different.

I use a GM 10 Bolt. The rules allow a 9" but I'm not going to have time to make the change before the last race.

Additional question. I could also increase my right side thread width by 1". Would this have a significant effect on handling. Is it worth the expence of buying new rims. I could either get the rims or lock the rear, which you be more effective.

one thing you havre to look at is if you go to a wider wheel with the same tire it's going to change your stagger a bit. also is there anything wrong with the way the car works now that you want to make this change ?i've never ran asphalt so realy have no idea how to set it up but i would think it would help you turn better with a open one i know i have a **** of a time getting mine to turn on the street when i load it up
