I run a 79 Camaro Super Stock. I was having some handling problems and put a 1/2 spring rubber in the right front. The car is handling really well now. I'm considering changing from a 1100# RF to a 1200# and removing the spring rubber. What do you guy's think? Is this to much of a change?
Thanks

I have a digital spring rate tester and with the softer spring rubbers I use a half rubber only only increased the rate of my 1100 spring about 30lbs per inch and was fairly linear throughout the working travel. Be careful if you replace the spring if you haven't rated yours, most of the stiffer front coils are not what they are and have alot of rate creep. If the cars working good now leave the rubber in and run, it won't hurt the spring as long as you don't coil bind it.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll just run it.

Sounds like your binding the spring WITHOUT the rubber, and the rubber is giving you alittle bit of spring now after the rest of the spring binds up. 1100 in the RF is alittle soft in a camaro, unles your on a slow flat track. If you have any banking at all and run at least a 6.50 gear or higher (faster), I'd probably try a 1300 in the RF and a 1200 in the LF. Also make sure you have the factory A-arm stops taken off the lower control arms. They look like little rubber capital 'A's.

I think you may be on to something. The car was originally tight in and loose off. The spring rubber made a world of difference. I need to start puttting down more info when I post these questions.
Thanks I'm going to take a big look into this.

i run a 78 camaro on a clay high banked track and i run 1300rf 1000lf and have no problem. the car weighs 3500 lbs. id run it the way it is if its working, then this winter up the springs. remember, the springs will get weak after some time so after the season. check them and if they are to weak replace them. for 35-50 bucks its worth it cause it makes a world of difference on the handling on the track.
