Could someone tell me what could cause my carburator to surge at an idle? I don't know how it acts on the track, because I changed it in the shop when it wouldn't idle correctly. It is a C&S carb and this is the first sign of trouble I've had with it.. My other carb runs fine and idles fine. I checked for vaccum leaks with the C&S carb and found none. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hmmm....could be several things. Internal vacuum leaks can cause that symptom, or either a loose butterfly or some other problem in the power valve area as well. Take the carb bowl and metering plate off and inspect carefully there, as well as any loose or missing pcs in the baseplate area.
I've seen cracked carb bodies behave that way, but that is detectable while it's running on the car by spraying around the carb and watching for changes in idle.

Hope that helps, and keep us posted on what you find.
