i tried to start my car for the first time this year and the engine turned over finally after i put the charger on it but not fast enough to get any kind of good spark to fire. so i changed the starter, bought a new batery and a different silinoid that i know worked .tried it again and all i got was a click. my ground was to the body before but i moved it to the frame at this time.then i had gauge lights but no click when i pushed the button. i have eliminated all my wiring down to just a power wire going to the button and the wire to feed the starter side of the silinoid. and i have the starter unhooked so i can check it for voltage while i have the button pushed.i have 16.25v going in but nothing coming out and i have tried 3 brand new siliniods. i got about .5v off of one of them but nothing else read anything does the starter need to be hooked up to draw voltage here?i'm at a dead end and have changed everything that has anything to do with this

ground the negative side of battery to the block if your running rubber engine mounts and it should help you.

i have a ground from the block to the frame already just can't figure y there is no voltage coming out of the silinoid.. i ran a jumper cable from the + straight to the starter and it turned so i know that ground is good

Just curious what kind of sillinoid are you running? It sounds like your sillinoid is not kicking in. It sounds like you are definetly wired wrong. You need to run one wire from the positive side of the battery to one side of the sillinoid. From the other side of the sillinoid to the starter. (make sure your sillinoid on your starter is crossed from the S post to the main feed where your battery wire would connect) Run one wire from the positive side of the sillinoid to your ignition switch and from the ignition switch to the distributor. Run another hot wire from your ignition switch to one side of your push button and the other side of the button to the silliniod (which should have an s on it). That should turn it over and fire it up.

i had it exactly the way you just described when it started i didn't know if maybe i had a ground off of a short to the gauges so i have all my wiring taken off except a the hot wire goin directly to the push button so there is no wires going anywhere but the small post on the starter side it has juice to it but nothing coming out ? what would happen if i ran the wire to the big post straight to the wire to the starter in stead of the small one. would it fry that wire and my button?

Racer17J, My father went through this a few years back with our car. He is my father, and I learned at a young age not to argue with him.........he wanted to run a ford style siliniod..........we got to argueing where to mount the thing, I told him put it up your ***. and walked away to get some other stuff done in the shop. My father knows everything......JUST ASK HIM.
anyway the seliniod wouldn't work and he was too proud to ask for my help. I kept working on something else, he took all the wires on and off the siliniod about 4 times thinking he had it wired wrong........I was working away laughing inside. After about 2 hours he got mad and said I could finish the job for him. I walked over looked at how he had it wired and said it looked fine.......now bolt it down to the chassis so it has a ground and it will work........simple as that.........I think he is still a little sore at me over that. See he would wire the thing and then go push the button to check for proper operation, but never mounted it before checking......just hanging off the wires.....
But if you have power going in and nothing coming out and everything is wired properly this is your problem too...........All silniods need a ground, these are nother more than a electric switch, anything electric needs a ground to work.......I'll bet this is the problem.
