I was just wondering what kind of safety gear do your corner workers, flagmen and emergency crews wear at the races? How many are really prepared if a car hit the wall, punctured a fuel cell and burst into flames. How many workers would be able to run in and pull an unconscious driver from a burning car or would everyone have to wait for a fire crew to arrive from outside the wall. How safe is it to race at your track, how committed to safety is the owners and promoters. After all, the rules on safety for drivers in the cars are very vague. Just questions every driver should ask before he straps in at a track.

I race at I-55 Raceway in Pevely,Mo. and I feel they have the best emergency crew that i've seen at a track. They have two "real" firefighters, one in each corner in full gear with the lastest extraction devices. They also have two ambulances with two fully trained paramedics per ambulance. One sets in the infield wich is owned by the track and stays at the track at all times. The other sets outside to care for spectator injuries and to transport drivers and spectators to either the at track care facility or to the hospital. This way there is always an ambulance at the track so the race program can keep running with little delay.
Just from the few race tracks I have been at I feel I-55 is the safest to race at. I have nothing but high praise for the efforts these men and women put out to see that we have a safe racing program.

Portsmouth raceway has a great crew hit the wall once pretty hard they were there before
I could even unbuckle, on another note my brother rolled at this track went back the next week to watch the promoter saw him, made a point to ask if he was ok, and to make sure any medical bills were forwarded to the TRACK for payment.

I THINK HOT IN WACO IS SETUP PRETTY WELL TO HANDLE ANY EMERGENCY. THE ON THAT IS LEAST PREPAIRED WOULD BE 85 SPEEDWAY IN ENNIS, WE WAS WATCHING A 1/4 MIDGET RACE WHEN ONE FLIPPED GOING INTO TURN ONE AND BUSTED THE FUEL CELL WITH THE RACER STILL IN THE CAR IT BURST INTO FLAMES. THE EMERGENCY CREW CAME ONTO THE TRACK , GOT A FIRE EXTEGUISHER OUT OF THE TRUCK, IT DID NOT WORK, HE " WALKED" OVER TO THE TRUCK AND GOT ANOTHER ONE AND IT DID NOT WORK EITHER, SO HE WALKED BACK OVER TO THE TRUCK AND WAS LOOKING AROUND FOR ANOTHER ONE. MEANWHILE A FELLOW RACER WENT INTO THE FIRE WHICH WAS 15 FEET HIGH AND UNBUCKELED THE DRIVER AND PULLED HIM OUT. THEY HAD TO CARE FLIGHT THE GUY TO PARKLAND BURN CENTER, AND THE ANNOUNCER RELAYED THE HE WAS IN CRITICAL CONDITION AND HAD 2ND DEGREE BURNS ON HIS LEGS ARMS AND FACE. I COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW SLOW THE EMERGIENCY CREW REACTED. I WILL NEVER RACE THAT TRACK AGAIN FOR THIS REASON. IT SCARED ALOT OF PEOPLE.
