Franklin, Wis., Apr. 26---The "Wildman" Jim Watson dominated the UMP super late model feature event at the Hales Corners Speedway by taking his pole position start home to victory lane. Watson set sail from the green producing an unchallengeable pace on the arctic-like night. Watson was followed to the finish line by Chris Carlson, Bret Sievert, Russ Scheffler and Scott Specht.
Fast time for the late models was set by Russ Scheffler in the maiden voyage of his Wild, Inc. chassis, nearly meeting the year old track record. Scheffler also had a heat race win along with Watson, and the dash was won by Rick Scheffler.
The sportsman feature was taken by Don Scheffler, followed by Roger Lee, Bob "The Builder" Brent, Jeff Tondryk and 2002 champion Don Sorce. Fast time was set by Sorce who also had a heat win along with Mike Borchardt, Jr., and Scheffler.
In the modified marathon feature, Jim Zdroik came back from a big heat race crash to take the win. He was followed to the line in the caution plagued event by a hard charging Jimmy Muth, Mike Sandholm, Brian Crapser and the super veteran Ev Fitch. Fast time was set by Jason Zdriok and heat race wins went to Mark Brunner, Joe McGrath, Muth and Jason Zdroik.
Barry Cates took the Hales Whales feature with 2002 champ Aaron Stolp picking up where he left off in the Mud Puppies with an opening night win.
This coming weekend at the Hales Corners Speedway will see the Badger Midgets and MSA sprint cars in the first of several weeknight specials on Friday. ProStar racing returns on Saturday with a full program of UMP late model, sportsmen, modified, Hales Whales and Mud Puppy action.
