Gallagher hauls in USCS cash, Powers scores big
The 1998 USCS national champion Eddie Gallagher from Memphis, Tennessee, won the 30 lap USCS "Show Me Shootout" at Auto Tire and Parts Racepark Saturday night.
Gallagher who transferred to the main event with a win in the fourth heat race, beat a stellar field of 25 drivers from 7 states to pocket a $2000 first place paycheck. Gallagher, who is the all time feature win leader at the track, battled front row starters Jeff Buckner, then Paul Sides to take the lead on lap 18 and raced the rest of the way home to capture his 33rd career USCS main event.
Paul Sides from Bartlett, Tennessee, who won heat race number two, led laps 10-17 but succumbed to Gallaghers charge. Sides followed in second place at the finish line, followed in third place by 2002 Knoxville 360 Nationals champion, Jeff Swindell, also from Bartlett, who started 13th.
First heat winner, Mike Ward also from Memphis, finished fourth after starting sixth and the second heat race winner, Ernie Ainsworth from Memphis, rounded out the top five. Buckner, who lead the first 9 laps and looked strong finished sixth, followed by USCS points leader, Terry Gray.
1999 champion, Marshall Skinner finished in eighth, Mike McElya finished ninth and Sonny Sayre rounded out the top ten. Terry Gray won the Airflow Research Power Dash. Swindell garnered the Huggins Cams "Hard charger" award for his drive past 10 cars. Shawn King from Cape Girardeau, Missouri captured the 12 lap B-main.

Robert Powers took the Cliff’s Rent-to-Own Miller Lite Modified special event at the 3/8th mile oval picking up $1,000 in the process.
Gary Haynes jumped out to the lead for two laps when Powers jumped around him for the top-spot. Powers paced the field for ten laps until Danny Sissom got underneath him for the lead. Sissom would hold the lead until lap 15 when Powers would return to the point. The Campbell racer then cruised through the final five laps earning the big payday sponsored by Cliff’s Rent to Own.
Greg Geiler ran in the top-three throughout the entire event moving up as high as second and settled for second after Sissom suffered a flat tire on the 18th lap. Chris Hall also moved around Sissom to take third with Larry Hull moving into fourth. Despite a flat-tire Sissom was able to turn in top-five finish in the 20-lap event.
Making his first trip to the racepark this year, Kevin Holman nailed down the victory in the Pure Street division. Holman took over the lead from Leo Kiefer on the seventh lap and paced the final eight laps of the event. Greg Casey finished the night in third with Therain Pearl cruising home in fourth and Ronnie Tilley rounding out the top-five.
Mark Henry and Jason Owens won the Motorsports Unlimited Cruiser feature. The pair led the entire 10-lap distance of the feature event. Josh Southard and Shawn Koening finished second with Scott Austin and John Austin finishing third. Dana Rowland and Joan Mayberry finished fourth with Jason Pennington and Jeff Ledbetter finishing in the fifth position.
