Fans treated to nail-biting racing action at NCAS

Action packed, fast-paced racing action was the order of business last
Friday night as NCAS and KTLO/KTCC Radio sponsored a full race program that
kept fans sitting on the edge of their seats. Race after race, lap after
lap, fans were treated to some of the best racing action of the season.
Mini Stock action found Steve Farris, 90S, of Flippin tearing up the track
to take his second win of the season at NCAS. Fans saw a four-car Hobby
race
that was a screamer up to the very last turn. In the Super Stock division,
Greg Ott, 12C, held of a track full of aggressive competitors to take his
fourth win in a row. IMCA Modified rookie John Mostrom, J9, of Flippin put
on an exciting show as he battled veteran Modified driver Rob Muilenburg,
59, and David Hess, 76, of Clinton, AR in the IMCA feature race. In Cruiser
action, the Missouri based team of Wallace/Plante pulled off another feature
win over local NCAS favorites Bryant/Curtis.

Feature Race Recaps
Eleven Mini Stocks were on hand for their 15-lap, caution free feature
race with Jack Essary, 73, on the pole and Mark Shockley, 43S, sitting on
the outside. When green flag racing began, Steve Farris, 90S, who started
second row inside, flew to the front of the field followed by Essary,
McDaniel, Arnall, DeGase, Shockley, Steburg and Katcher. On lap 2, Farris
continued his lead while McDaniel began his battle with Essary for second.
For the next 4 laps, Farris extended his lead while Essary and McDaniel
raced side-by-side for second. On lap 7, Farris began lapping slower traffic
followed by McDaniel, Essary, Arnall, Steburg, Shockley and DeGase. On lap
9, Arnall and Steburg raced side-by-side for fourth. On lap 11, Arnall won
the battle and took the position from Steburg. On lap 12, Farris lapped
the
ninth placed car and continued to extend his lead while Katcher and DeGase
raced side-by-side for seventh. Farris crossed under the checker flag for
the win followed by McDaniel and Essary. Finishing out the top five were
Steburg and Arnall.
Sixteen Hobby cars filled the track for their 20-lap feature race with
Rita Roach, 7, on the pole and Ken Wiliams, 35, on the outside. When the
green flag flew Malone and Gregory got together in turn 4 causing a massive
pile-up that included half of the field. Once the field was cleared, the
cars lined back up for an original restart. Lap 1 found Williams out front
followed by Hensley, Rustin Miller, Sheehan, Malone, Reid and Gregory. On
lap 2, Hensley and Williams raced side-by-side out of turn 4 followed by
R.
Miller, Sheehan, Malone, Reid, Harris, Donnie Miller and Patrick. On lap
4,
Williams continued his lead and R. Miller and Hensley were racing
side-by-side when Hensley baubled coming out of turn 2 and dropped into
fourth. For the next ten laps, the top four cars, Williams, R. Miller,
Sheehan and Miller, raced nose to tail. On lap 16, the caution flag flew
when Cowart, 80, looped his car in turn 4. On the restart, R. Miller would
lead the train followed by Hensley, Williams and Sheehan. On lap 18, Sheehan
got loose coming out of turn 4, but held on to his position. R. Miller led
the way to the checkered flag followed by Hensley and Williams. Finishing
out the top five were Sheehan and Donnie Miller. (Editor's Note: Sheehan
forfeited his winnings and point's for the evening for failure to comply
with a formal protest filed by Robert Dale Gregory, 4. Sheehan was penalized
when he refused to breakdown his car for track officials to inspect the
car'
s clutch.)
Nine Super Stocks charged onto the track for their 20-lap feature race
with Heath Davenport, 7d, on the pole and Greg Ott, 12C, sitting on the
outside. When green flag racing action began, Ott went to the front followed
by H. Davenport, Davidson, Roach, J. Davenport, Smith, Dicks and Farris.
ON
lap three, J. Davenport challenged Roach for third and on lap 5 took over
the position. On lap 6, the caution flag flew when, J. Davenport and
Davidson got together in turn 1 sending both drivers to the tailback
position. On the restart, Ott continued his lead followed by H. Davenport,
Roach, Farris, Smith and Dicks. On lap 13, Ott continued his lead followed
by H. Davenport, Roach and Davidson. On lap 17, the caution flag flew when
Roach exploded into a ball of smoke. On the restart, Ott went to the front
followed by H. Davenport, Davidson, Farris, J. Davenport, Dicks, Smith and
Bristol. On lap 18, J. Davenport challenged and took fourth from Farris.
On
lap 19, J. Davenport challenged H. Davenport for third. At the checkered
flag Ott crossed first for his fourth win in a row followed by Davidson
and
Joe Davenport. Finishing out the top five were Heath Davenport and Farris.
Thirteen IMCA Modifieds took to the track for their 20-lap feature race
with Dave Collins, 3, on the pole and the 83T of Troy Tredway sitting on
the
outside. The green flag was followed by a caution flag when the 65 of Mike
Koch slid in turn 3. Following an original restart, the caution flag flew
again when Jason Purvis, 1P, looped his car in turn 4. Another original
restart, found Tredway out front followed by Stilling, Griffin, Muilenburg
and Mostrom. On lap 2, as Sawyer pulled into the infield and Tredway looped
his car in turn 4, the caution flag flew for Koch in turn 2. On the restart,
Tredway continued his lead followed by Stilling, Muilenburg, Griffin,
Mostrom, Hess, W. Johnston and Horn. On lap 3, Muilenburg moved into second.
On lap 4, Muilenburg took the lead from Tredway and Mostrom challenged
Griffin for fourth. On lap 7, Muilenburg extended his lead while Mostrom,
Stilling and Tredway raced three-wide for second. On lap 8 and 9, Mostrom
battled Stilling for second. On lap 9, Muilenburg continued his lead,
Mostrom and Hess raced side-by-side on the backstretch for second and
Stilling looped his car in turn 4. On lap 10, the caution flag flew when
Stilling failed to restart his car. On the restart, Muilenburg resumed his
lead, Hess and Mostrom continued to battled for position, while W. Johnston
moved up into fourth. The final caution flag flew when Croney had trouble
on
the backstretch and then took a direct hit by Tredway. Tredway was finished
for the evening, but Croney refired his car and reentered the race. On the
restart, Muilenburg resumed his lead and Mostrom and Hess raced side-by
side
for second followed by Griffin, Johnston, Horn, Purvis and Croney. On the
fi
nal lap, Mostrom beat Hess coming out of turn 4, but Hess turned up the
heat
and beat Mostrom by inches to the checkered flag to take second. Muilenburg
added another win to his notch followed by Hess and Mostrom. Finishing out
the top five were Griffin and W. Johnston.
Cruiser feature racing action began when seven teams lined up with
Bryant\Curtis on the pole and Dave/Gene Crisenbery on the outside. Lap 1
found Bryant/Curtis out front followed by the Criseberys, Wallace/Plante,
Curtis/Hanah, Cantrall/Foster and Perry/Shockley. On lap 2, Wallace/Plante
challenged the Criseberys for second and on lap 3 Wallace/Plante won the
battle and moved into the second spot. On lap 4, the caution flag flew when
Nemeth/Van Duren looped their car in turn 4. On the restart, Bryant/Curtis
resumed the lead followed by Wallace/Plante, the Crisenberys, Curtis/Hanah,
Perry/Shockley, Canrall/Foster and Nemeth/Van Duren. On lap 8,
Wallace/Plante raced side-by-side with Bryant/Curtis for the lead. On lap
9,
Wallace/Plante were out front followed by Bryant/Curtis, the Crisenberys,
Curtis/Hanah and Perry/Shockley. On lap 14, Curtis/Hanah passed the
Crisenberys and moved into third. Wallace/Plante passed under the checkered
flag for the win followed by Bryant/Curtis and Curits/Hanah. Finishing out
the top five were the Crisenberys and Perry/Shockley.
Racing action resumes this Friday night when NCAS and First Choice Farm
and Lawn present the MLRA/SUPR Late Models and full race program plus powder
puff racing. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and racing begins at 8:00.
