Dan Armbruster wins again at Raceway 7
Conneaut, OH (August 9) - Dan Armbruster from Harborcreek, PA was the winner of the 25-lap Maloney Tool and Mold Late Model feature event on Friday night at Raceway 7. It was win number five on the season for Armbruster, as he is marching towards the division point championship. After winning his first of the season last week, Todd Roncaglione backed it up with another win in the Biscotti's Restaurant and Winery E-Mods. In the Fame Manufacturing Street Stocks, it was Darrell Bossard from Centerville, PA collecting his fourth feature win of the year. John Sousa from Ashtabula, Ohio took his third feature win of the season in The Bolt Place Hobby Stocks.
The 25-lap Maloney Tool and Mold Late Model feature race started with Rick Briggs and Brent Rhebergen on the front row of the starting grid. Rhebergen quickly moved to the lead, as fourth starting Dan Armbruster moved to second. Two early caution periods slowed the event on lap 2 and lap 5, but the final 20 laps would run all green. Rhebergen would continue to lead on what would be the final restart, but Armbruster and Rob Blair were up to challenge in a side-by-side battle for the lead. Armbruster completed the pass for the top spot on lap 8, as Blair followed to second. Chub Frank moved to third on lap 11, but Greg Fenno would pass him for the spot on lap 14. Blair tried to gain ground on leader Armbruster, but the distance remained at several car lengths until race traffic became an issue. Armbruster made all of the right moves in traffic to gain his fifth victory of the season, as he increased his point lead to a comfortable margin over Jim Dandy, Jr. who raced a borrowed car to an eleventh place finish. Blair was a close second, with Fenno third. Frank held off Ryan Markham for fourth, as Markham was driving the CO2 normally driven by Paul Davis. Rhebergen was sixth, as Dave Lyon, Matt Urban, Rich Gardner, and Mark Osburn rounded out the top ten. There were 33 entries on hand as heat winners were Fenno, Jay Watson, and Armbruster. The Last Chance Race was won by Andy Kania.
The 20-lap Biscotti's Restaurant and Winery E-Mod feature started with Dan McDonald and Paul Davis leading the field to the green flag. Davis took the early lead as Mike Hess was quickly up to challenge. The pair swapped the lead on lap 3, with Davis still keeping command. On lap 6, Davis spun from the lead to force a caution period. Ron Roncaglione inherited the top spot, and the battle for second would be waged between caution periods for the next part of the race. After a lap 13 restart, Todd Roncaglione moved forward to battle his older brother for the race lead. With an inside pass off of turn four, Todd Roncaglione would take the lead on lap 17. A final restart on lap 18 would bunch the field a final time, but Todd Roncaglione would take the win. Hess nosed Ron Roncaglione for second. Point leader Dale Applebee was fourth, with Al Cressley fifth. The rest of the top ten finishers were Tim Rhoades, Mike Potosky, Jim White, Jim Frontz, and Brian Taft. With 34 drivers on hand, Davis, Potosky, and Cressley took heat races, as White took the Last Chance Race.
Darrell Bossard dominated the 15-lap Fame Manufacturing Street Stock feature to score his fourth victory of the season. From the outside pole position, Bossard quickly pulled ahead of pole sitter Tim Mann at the drop of the green. Ryan Blood settled into second as the race progressed, but a lap 10 yellow flag waved for point leader Brian Douglas who spun in turn two. Bossard controlled the remaining distance to net the win. Jim McFadden passed Blood in the closing laps to get second. Combined with the tenth place finish by Douglas, McFadden gained the division point lead by five over Bossard and 55 over Douglas. Joel Watson marched from tenth to finish fourth, with Mike Beck finishing fifth. Bossard, Dr. John Hobbs, and McFadden were the heat race winners.
John Sousa raced to his third feature win of the season in the 8-lap feature for The Bolt Place Hobby Stocks. Heat race winner Larry Meier led the first lap, before Sousa quickly made his way to the lead from eighth starting position. Terry Lavery turned in a solid run for second. Third went to Scott McFadden, as Meier spun on the last lap. With his fourth place finish, Dave Harding claimed the division point lead from Ron Armstrong. Krystal Patrick was fifth.
A number of drivers went through the grandstands to take a collection for Street Stock driver Mike Horton, who received serious burns during a n incident in an August 2 race. Over $2700 was collected for the popular driver as he faces a long road to recovery.
