Dan Armbruster tops the Renegade Series at Raceway 7

Conneaut, OH (July 26) - The Renegade DirtCar Series brought their best to Raceway 7 on Friday night. But at the end of the Jay's Auto Wrecking sponsored 50-lap event, it was Dan Armbruster from Harborcreek, PA defending his home turf by winning the $5,000 top prize. The current Maloney Tool and Mold Late Model point leader raced to his fourth feature win of the season, but this was definitely the biggest one.

In other action on the card, Hugo Litwiler from Linesville, PA raced to his third feature victory of the season in the Biscotti's Restaurant and Winery E-Mods. Also putting a three in the win column was Joel Watson from Ashtabula, Ohio in the Fame Manufacturing Street Stocks. In his first visit, Dave Surrena from Jamestown, NY took the win in The Bolt Place Hobby Stocks.

The Jay's Auto Wrecking 50-lap main event for the Renegade DirtCar Series and Maloney Tool and Mold Late Models started with Dan Armbruster and Ryan Markham leading the 26-car field to the green flag. Armbruster would lead the first lap, as Markham used the outside groove to gain the lead on lap 2. Markham nosed ahead briefly before Armbruster made it a race for the lead by lap 8. The lead was hotly contested until a lap 17 caution slowed the pace as the leaders were facing race traffic. The lead battle continued, until a lap 21 yellow flag slowed the pace again. Markham would continue to lead on this restart, but Armbruster would quickly flash by to take the lead on lap 24 as an extended period of green flag racing would ensue. Markham would quickly fade out of the top five, as Steve Shaver and Matt Urban would take up the chase ahead of David Scott and Todd Andrews. Shaver was closing on Armbruster, as race traffic would enter the picture. The next yellow on lap 43 cleared the track for the leaders, though Shaver and Urban would tangle on the restart. This moved Andrews to second, as Markham had recovered to third, before he later retired from the event. Though a number of late yellows would slow the pace, Armbruster would go on to score the $5,000 victory. Andrews would advance from ninth starting position to earn second place honors. Rick Aukland fell back in the early going, but rallied to get third. Fourth went to Bart Hartman, after starting 21st on the starting grid. Scott started 14th and finished fifth. Rob Blair finished sixth, as Mike Balzano, Chub Frank, **** Barton, and Greg Lucas filled the top ten. A field of 48 entries were on hand for the event, as Frank turned in the fastest qualifying time at 17.611. Heat race winners were Shaver, Lucas, Andrews, and Jim Dandy, Jr. The Dash winner was Armbruster, as Last Chance Race wins went to Frank and Dave Lyon.

The 20-lap Biscotti's Restaurant and Winery E-Mod went to Hugo Litwiler, as he led the entire distance in scoring his third victory of the season. Litwiler nosed ahead of pole sitter Tim Rhoades to lead from the start of the event. A yellow flag on lap 10 found the second place car of Rick Smith spinning, as he collected point leader Dale Applebee and Rhoades. With the second, third, and fourth running cars eliminated from competition, fifth running Al Cressley inherited second for what would be the final restart of the event. Litwiler would pull away from the field over the remaining distance to score the victory. Cressley and Bootie Petsko raced hard for the second position, running side-by-side for many laps before Cressley finally gained the position. Mike Hess came through the pack after being involved in an early caution period to get fourth, with Jim Frontz finishing fifth. Todd Roncaglione was sixth, as Ron Roncaglione, Chuck List, Jeff Shank, and Gerry Kielar completed the top ten. Heat winners were Frontz, Applebee, and Smith.

Dr. John Hobbs and Joel Watson led the 15-lap Fame Manufacturing Street Stock feature to the green flag with "The Racing Veterinarian" taking the early lead. However, Hobbs would spin on lap 1 to bring out the first caution of the event. Watson would take over the lead, as he would be uncontested through the first half of the event. During the second half, Watson would receive constant pressure from both Darrell Bossard and Jim McFadden between numerous caution periods. Watson was up to every challenge, as he held on to score his third feature win of the season. McFadden took second with Bossard in third. Mike Beck scored his best finish of the season in fourth, with point leader Brian Douglas finishing fifth. Watson, Bossard, and Mike Horton were the heat race winners.

Dave Surrena took the win in his first visit in the 8-lap feature for The Bolt Place Hobby Stocks. Starting on the outside pole position, Surrena quickly pulled ahead of John Sousa and would lead the entire distance in picking up the victory. The battle was for second in the closing laps, with heat race winner Bob Bland taking the position on the last lap in the car normally driven by Krystal Patrick. Sousa was third ahead of Rich Becker and Terry Lavery.
