Kuntz & Co. Rookie of the Year
Sunday, June 23, 2002
By Larry Olson; Mountain Home, AR

BATESVILLE AR. With another pair of O'Reilly Auto Parts Mid-America Racing Series events in the books, the Kuntz & Co. Rookie of the Year battle continues to take shape. Joey Mack, who assumed the point lead one weekend ago, has lengthened his lead with another good weekend of racing.

Mack has extended his lead over Dwaine Hottinger to 62 points after good runs both nights. Mack finished an impressive 10th Friday night at the Muskogee Speedway, then backed it up Saturday night missing the top ten by just one spot at the Tri-State Speedway in Pocola, Oklahoma.

Dewaine Hottinger was able to compete in both feature events this past weekend, however damaged his primary car on Friday in the process. Hottinger encountered a large tire marking the infield at Muskogee causing extensive damage to his mount on Friday. Hottinger accepted a provisional starting position, made a couple of laps, then pulled off. Hottinger brought his back-up car to Tri-State on Saturday, and had one of the best runs of the season, coming home a very respectable 12th in a 5 year old GRT that backs up his primary car.

Stacy Taylor continues to solider on in 3rd spot in the Kuntz & Co. Rookie points with a pair of A Feature runs that netted him about 15th place points each night.
