IMPERIAL, PA….John Flinner of Zelienople and Carnegie's Al Atallah split the QPI Tools Late Model Twin 20's Saturday night at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. Jim Stephans of Baldwin collected the Advance Auto Parts Limited Late Model Special; while Austintown, OH's Wayne Tessean registered his first win of the season in the E-Modifieds. Ron O'Patchin of Scott Township ended his retirement earlier this season and showed he hasn't lost his touch by taking his 60th career feature in the Isiminger's Pennzoil Pure Stocks, and Pittsburgh's Joel Johns drove to his first Amateur Stock victory.
Not wasting any time, Flinner blasted from tenth into the lead on lap five of the first QPI Tools Late Model feature. Lou Bradich, who held the lead before Flinner, settled for second. Ben Miley was third, Ed Ferree fourth and initial leader, Jim Zarin, fifth. Monarch Oil Hard Charger - Steve Baker, came from sixteenth to sixth. Atallah was seventh, Mike Cecere eighth, George Kowatic ninth and Alex Ferree tenth.
The second portion of the QPI Tools Late Model doubleheader saw Atallah weather several late race cautions for a wire-to-wire win. Baker was second, Cecere third, Bradich fourth, and Doug Crawford fifth. Ed Ferree, Miley, Bill Adler, Alex Ferree and Mark Moats were sixth through tenth respectively. Flinner's bid to double-up ended when he pitted with a flat tire on lap fourteen. He returned to the field to finish twelfth. Adler was the Monarch Oil Hard Charger in the second race. Alex Ferree, Atallah and Flinner won the heat races.
Advance Auto Parts Limited Late Model rookie Charlie DiLoreto had upset on his mind as he led the first eleven laps of the feature. Veteran Jim Stephans used the low line to pass DiLoreto on lap twelve and drove off for his second win of the season. Robert Freshour ended up second with DiLoreto third, Monarch Oil Hard Charger - Gary Cellone fourth, and Rich Apolito fifth. Bobby Castelveter was sixth, Tom Schirnhofer seventh, Neal Isiminger eighth, Pete Loria ninth and Tony Musolino tenth. Cellone and Apolito were the heat race winners.
Former track champion Wayne Tessean ended Larry Kugel's two race win streak by leading wire to wire in the E-Modifieds. Russ Matejka finished second, Ralph Hysong Jr. third, Scott Gunn fourth and Kugel fifth. Sixth through tenth were: Vince Laboon, John Myrgo, J.J. Bametzrider, Bruce Dreistadt and Bob Williamson. Kugel and Monarch Oil Hard Charger - Matejka won the preliminaries.
All-time Isiminger's Pennzoil Pure Stock winner Ron O'Patchin scored his first win since 1998. Dave Beck held off Craig Kamicker for second, with Brian Scheller fourth and A.J. Poljak fifth. Kenny Isiminger, Doug Foster, Frankie Schneider, Darryl Robison and Stacie White completed the top ten. Shawn Bryan was the Monarch Oil Hard Charger. White and Foster collected the heat race wins.
Joel Johns took the lead from Bill Robertson halfway through the Amateur Stock feature and pulled away for the victory. Robertson was second, Davy Lee third, Bob Schwartzmiller fourth and Tony Capo fifth. Rounding out the top ten were: Kenny Bratt Jr., Joshua Langer, Ian Tomei, Randy Sprouse and Bobby Seimon. Capo was the Monarch Oil Hard Charger. Lee and Seimon captured the heats.
This Saturday, June 29th, the QPI Tools Late Models, Advance Auto Parts Limited Late Models, E-Modifieds, Isiminger's Pennzoil Pure Stocks, and Amateur Stocks all return to action on Pittsburgh Circle Track Club and QPI Tools Night at the track.
