Jay Watson wins at Raceway 7

Conneaut, OH (June 7) - Jay Watson from Conneaut, Ohio was the winner in the 25-lap Maloney Tool and Mold Late Model feature event on Friday night at Raceway 7. The former E-Mod and Steel Block Late Model champion turned back a 40-car field in winning his first Super Late Model event at Raceway 7. Hugo Litwiler from Linesville, PA picked up his second victory of the season in the Biscotti's Restaurant and Winery E-Mod feature event, sponsored by Kightlinger Auto and Machine Shop. Jim McFadden from Painesville, Ohio raced to his first feature win of the year in the Fame Manufacturing Street Stocks. In just his second event of his career, Ziggy Kugel was the winner in the Hobby Stocks.

The 25-lap Maloney Tool and Mold Late Model feature started with Jim Dandy, Jr. and Jay Watson on the front row of the starting grid. Watson took the lead at the start and immediately started to pull away from the field. Laps clicked by quickly as Watson would find himself encountering race traffic by lap 11, allowing Dandy to close the deficit. A caution period on lap 12 would slow the pace for the first time, wiping out Watson's lead but giving him a clear track ahead. A series of caution periods ensued, including an eight-car tangle on lap 15. The final restart would take place on lap 16, as Watson again moved away to a comfortable lead. Greg Fenno challenged Dandy briefly after the restart, but Dandy would reel in Watson in the closing laps. Time would run out, as Watson held on to score his first feature win in the Late Model division at Raceway 7. Dandy settled for a close second, but pulled to a very close second in the point race. Fenno turned in another solid run to finish third. Mike Wonderling nosed **** Barton for fourth at the checkered flag. Ryan Markham was sixth. Seventh went to Dan Armbruster who retained his narrow point lead, in a charge from starting position 25. Matt Urban was eighth as he is a close third in the standings. Chris Hackett and Mickey Wright filled the top ten. A field of 40 cars were on hand with heat race wins going to Ron Davies, Urban, Rob Blair, and Dandy. Last Chance Race winners were Brent Rhebergen, and Bill Watson.

Kightlinger Auto and Machine Shop sponsored a special 25-lap feature for the Biscotti's Restaurant and Winery E-Mods. It started with Hugo Litwiler and Tim Rhoades in the front row. Litwiler took the lead at the green flag as point leader Dale Applebee grabbed second after starting third. Rhoades regained the second spot on a lap 5 restart and would hound Litwiler for the lead until spinning on lap 13. Randy Hall had zoomed through the field from starting position 18, and was third on the restart before he faded with problems. Applebee regained second, but he could do nothing with race leader Litwiler. A multi-car tangle on lap 21 slowed the pace a final time, as Litwiler would race home with his second feature win of the season. Applebee padded his point lead in second, as Todd Roncaglione was third. Fourth went to Jim Frontz, with Ron Roncaglione moving from the last starting position in the 24-car field to finish fifth. Chuck List, Kevin Decker, Brian Taft, Dean Ruth, and Rhoades rounded out the top ten. Applebee, Litwiler, and Rhoades were the heat winners in the 29-car field as Randy Hall won the Last Chance Race.

Mike Horton and Jeremy Stafford led the 15-lap Fame Manufacturing Street Stock feature to the green flag with Horton taking the early lead. However, Horton spun from the lead on lap 3 to bring out the event's first caution flag. Point leader Brian Douglas inherited the top spot, but was soon to feel a challenge from fifth starting Jim McFadden. By the halfway mark, 11th starting Joel Watson moved up to make it a three-car battle for the top spot. The lead battle raged on following a lap 9 restart, with McFadden nosing ahead at the line to lead lap 11. When the final yellow flag waved during this lap, McFadden would be the leader on the restart. Watson took second at the green waved a final time, but could do little to unseat the leader as McFadden went on to score his first feature win of the season. Douglas regained second on the final lap, dropping Watson to third. Tim Mann advanced from tenth starting spot to finish fourth, as Ryan Blood earned his best finish of the season in fifth. Heat winners for the 27-car field were Blood, Darrell Bossard, and Horton.

In just the second race of his career, Ziggy Kugel raced to the 8-lap feature win in the Hobby Stocks. Second went to John Sousa, with Dave Harding third. Point leader and heat race winner Ron Armstrong was fourth, with Krystal Patrick fifth.
