Brown sweeps in extra cash
Kelly Brown did something in his mod that no one has done this year, win both the heat race and feature. The proverbial clean sweep. The Goldens Chimney Clean Sweep Award is a program that donates $50 to any mod driver that can complete a clean sweep. No driver had done this yet so the pot kept growing and carrying over. Brown kept a charging John Schultz at bay and collected the winners purse plus an extra $150. Jeremy Christians Was able to keep his car on the bottom of a slick track to pick up his second feature win in a row in the IMCA Stock race. Roles reversed this week as Steve Seitz had to hold off Nate Schepp in the pure stock race and Gary Clough took the feature win in the IMCA Hobby Stock race.
Having won their heat races, Brown, Nick Woods and Dan Musbach would each have a chance at the extra cash. Unfortunately both Woods and Musbach would have to leave the track with mechanical problems. Early in the mod feature, Brown was pressured from Scott Lewis for several laps. Brown rode the cushion as Lewis hugged the inside. After a midway caution Lewis was bumped to fourth behind sophomore driver John Schultz and last weeks winner Casey Koch. Brown and Schultz pulled away from the field and swapped the lead a couple times. As the top groove wore out Brown moved to the bottom as Schultz made every attempt to go around on the outside. Brown would hold on for his first win of the year with Schultz finishing second and third going to Koch.
John Stanton and Jeremy Christians set the pace early for the IMCA Stock race. Stanton led the first couple of laps before handing the lead over to Christians. On the restart of an early caution second place Stanton lopped his car in front of the field bringing out another caution. Points leader Brandon Czarapata inherited second with third going to Jeff Owens. Having restarted in the rear, Stanton picked off one or two cars per lap and by lap 15 had moved into fourth. Christians meanwhile assumed the steady rhythm that has earned him three straight championships. Methodically, Christians pulled away from the field. Czarapata was trying hard to catch the leader but spun to the infield on lap 16 moving Owens into second with Stanton taking third. Christians would go on to take his second win of the season.
Steve Seitz took the lead on lap 3 with Nate Schepp in his tracks. The two would swap the lead a couple times throughout the race. The pure stocks were maintaining a high rate of speed going into the corners and as a result numerous cars had to pit for new right rear tires. Seitz would hold on for the win in front of Schepp as Darrell Bittner edged Jason Behring by a couple of inches for third.
At the end of the night it was the ladies turn behind the wheel as Tim Paitrick Transmissions sponsored the Powder Puff races. The mod win went to Sandy Schoenberger. IMCA stock winner was Martina Stanton with Becky Wendt winning in the pure stock race. On tap for next week is the thunder of the IRA Outlaw Sprints with IMCA mods and stocks supporting. Wichinskiís Cruises and Trips of Beaver Dam will be the trophy sponsor.
