Michael takes TRL River Valley Rumble

ARKADELPHIA, Ala. (May 25) - Byron Michael drove by
series points leader Mark Mears with three laps
remaining to claim the 40-lap River Valley Rumble at
River Valley Speedway.

Mears took over the point from Georgian Shane Clanton
midway through the main and used the low line around
the racey third-mile to build a comfortable lead. But
Michael, who finished second behind Mears in the last
TRL event (Moulton Speedway, May 11), worked his way
free of Clanton and gave chase, catching the leader
with only a handful of laps remaining.

He then took advantage of lapped traffic, slipping by
Mears when the leader slowed for a backmarker, and
raced away to the victory, his first-ever with the new
series. Michael earned $2,500 for the win. Mears held
on for second over Keith Hays, Clanton and local
standout Bobby Lowe.

David Gentry started third in the Full Throttle Race
Parts Quick-Six Dash and - after a side-by-side battle
with Clanton - won the eight-lapper to claim the pole
for the feature.

Mears won the Gray's Bar-B-Que Smokin' Lap Award for
his quick time (15.53 seconds) during qualifying.

Jeremy Taylor earned the Boyd-Built Break of the Race
Award.

The next TRL event will be Friday, June 21 at Penton
Speedway in Penton, Alabama. The series wil lthen move
backto Moulton Speedway for a 40-lapper on June 22.
