Schraufnagel, Seitz pick up where they left off.
Shaver Builders sponsored the first night of racing at the speedway and under threatening skies the entire racing program was completed. Jay Schraufnagel and Steve Sietz continued to lead he way in the modified and pure stock ranks. Newcomer Brandon Czarapata made his trip from Pulaski, WI worth the drive by picking up his first win at the speedway in the IMCA Stock class. Tony Sly became the first winner in the new IMCA Hobby Stock division.
For many, this was the first chance to race this year since practice night and the season opener were both rained out. Since this was the first shake down for many, the attrition rate was fairly high as cars were braking throughout the night.
The IMCA Stock division was the first to run and it was John Stanton taking the early lead over a full field of cars. Czarapata moved up from his third starting position to take the lead on lap 3 and the two cars pulled away from Kerry Douglas and Rob Schmid who were fighting for third. Defending track champion Jeremy Christians moved into fifth as the caution waved on lap 7 for a flat tire on Douglasí car. On the restart, Czarapata, Schmid and Stanton pulled away from the field. Lap 11 saw Christians pull to the infield overheating and two laps later Stanton pulled off with a broken rear end gear. Running alone in third was Jeff Owens and in fourth was Roger Johnson. Johnson had moved up from the last starting position after rolling his car in the heat race. For the remainder of the race Czarapata and Schmid would swap the lead but on the last lap it was Czarapata taking the win a car length ahead.
Up next, the IMCA Modifieds took to the track behind the Homan Auto Sales Pace Truck. Schraufnagel used his front row starting position to take the lead over Dan Musbach and Sammy Strassser. After a couple cautions on lap 3 Strasser took second as Musbach left the track. Lee Tibbits showed the younger guys how itís done as he moved into the top five and held off several cars before slipping to his ninth place finish. By lap ten, Dennis Schultz moved into second and tried to take the lead with no success. Craig Priewe went to the outside of Strasser and took third and then took second on the restart after a quick caution. Priewe would make several attempts to pass and once it cost him some spots as he nearly lost control. Schraufnagel continued to lead as Priewe made up the spots he lost and moved back onto the bumper of Schraufnagel. The laps would run out for Priewe as he ended up second behind Schraufnagel who led from start to finish. Schultz took third with Wilmot track champion Ed Devall in fourth and Dennis Haldemann in fifth.
Steve Sietz led from the beginning of the Pure Stock feature and never looked back. Randy Schimmel was running second but losing ground to the leader. By lap 8, Jason Behring was fighting for the second spot and taking it 2 laps later. Behring would close on the leader but run out of laps as Seitz took the win.
