Armbruster defeats Frank in thriller at Raceway 7

Conneaut, OH (May 3) - After an unbelievable side-by-side battle for the majority of the 25-lap distance, Dan Armbruster from Harborcreek, PA was the winner of the 25-lap Maloney Tool and Mold Super Late Model feature event at Raceway 7 on Friday night. Armbruster and Chub Frank ran the majority of the race door-to-door and swapped the lead throughout the entire distance, but Armbruster would be ahead on the lap that counted and that was the final one. Dale Applebee from Clymer, NY repeated his opening night victory from last week in the Biscotti's Restaurant and Winery E-Mods giving him the two division wins this season. In the Fame Manufacturing Street Stocks, Joel Watson from Ashtabula, OH was the winner of their feature race. Bob Bland from Ashtabula was the winner in the Hobby Stock feature race.

The 25-lap feature for the Maloney Tool and Mold Super Late Models started with Bob Close and Chub Frank on the front row by the luck of the draw. Frank would take the lead at the start, as fifth starting Dan Armbruster was quick to challenge Close for second. Armbruster would take the spot on lap 3 and very quickly was up to challenge Frank. By lap 5, the race for the lead was an absolute war. The two drivers would lock into a side-by-side battle that saw the lead changing each lap. Armbruster was better off turn two running the inside, while Frank was better off turn four on the outside. A pair of caution periods on lap 16 would be the only thing to interrupt the lead battle, but it would resume immediately after the green flag flew. With the laps winding down, Armbruster would lead lap 21, with Frank leading lap 22 and 23. Armbruster got a really good run to lead lap 24, and it would give him the edge to lead at the checkered flag. With his victory, Armbruster earns a starting position to represent Raceway 7 at the Hub City event at Hagerstown, MD in an event later this season. Frank had to settle for a close second. Third went to Rob Blair, after starting ninth. From starting position 16, Jim Dandy, Jr. earned the fourth place money with Greg Fenno finishing fifth. Sixth went to David Scott, as Matt Urban, Jay Watson, Dave Lyon, and Frank Poniatowski completed the top ten. A field of 42 cars were on hand, with Lyon, Keith Berner, Fenno, and Blair earning heat race wins. Paul Davis and Mike Blose were the Last Chance Race winners.

The 20-lap Biscotti's Restaurant and Winery E-Mod feature was led to the green flag by Rick Robinson and Dale Applebee. Applebee led at the start as Jim Frontz advanced to second. Al Cressley and Tim Rhoades moved up to challenge as Frontz had trouble on a lap 6 restart. Rhoades would move to second on a lap 11 restart and posed several challenges to the leader. But in the closing laps, Applebee would pull away as he would score his second win in as many weeks of racing. Hugo Litwiler completed a late charge to the front to finish second, after starting 11th. Rhoades finished third after starting 12th. Cressley was fourth, with Chuck List finishing fifth from starting position 17. Dave Hess, Jr. finished sixth, as Todd Roncaglione, Bill Taylor, Jeff Shank, and Shawn Shingledecker rounded out the top ten. A field of 36 cars assembled with heat race wins going to Scott Stiffler, Litwiler, Rhoades, and Robinson. Last Chance Race wins went to List and Brian Taft.

Brian Douglas and Tim Mann led the 15-lap Fame Manufacturing Street Stock feature to the green flag with Douglas leading from the start. Douglas controlled the first half of the event with Mann eventually challenging. Mann would make a move to take the lead while working lap 6, but the move would be wiped out by a yellow flag. Working lap 8, again Mann made a pass for the lead that was eliminated by a caution period. Douglas still showed the way, as sixth starting Jim McFadden passed Mann who was later slowed with a flat tire. McFadden would take the lead on lap 11, as eighth starting Joel Watson moved to second at the same time. Watson did not stop there, as he moved in and passed McFadden for the lead on lap 13. Watson would go on to score the victory as McFadden slowed on the final lap. Douglas was second ahead of Darrell Bossard, Mike Horton, and Darren Buell. With 27 cars on hand, heat winners were McFadden, Douglas, and Watson. The Last Chance Race winner was Jeremy Stafford.

The 6-lap Hobby Stock feature went to Bob Bland after he had won the earlier heat race. Ron Armstrong, Dave Harding, and Mike Gonzales trailed at the finish.
