Schlipman scores Deery Series win at Davenport Speedway
DAVENPORT, Iowa (April 19) – On a wet night in Davenport, Terry Schlipman returned to victory lane after an ab-sence of nearly seven years.
Schlipman, from Mendon, Ill., started on the pole and led from start to finish in Friday’s caution-free Deery Brothers Summer Series event for I.M.C.A. Sunoco Late Models at Davenport Speedway.
The series victory, worth $2,000, was Schlipman’s career third. His first two wins both came in June of 1995.
Jeremiah Hurst of Dubuque started 15th and rocketed along the top of the quarter-mile track to second place. New series points leader Tom Darbyshire of Yarmouth was third.
Rounding out the top five were Lonnie Bailey of Quincy, Ill., and Thad Wilson of Moline, Ill.
The race program was delayed three times by rain and the main event was shortened to 40 laps from the scheduled 50 circuits to ensure its completion by the 10:30 p.m. curfew.
Schlipman is the fourth different winner in as many Deery races this season. The fifth is tonight (Saturday) at Jackson County Speedway in Maquoketa.
Ten more events follow Maquoketa on the series schedule.
